I recently put on new leaf Springs in the front for extra 2 and a 1/2 to 3" left. I still need another half to an inch lift and was wondering if I could cut down the original stock leaf Spring and place it under the existing leaf Spring for some extra lift what do you think?
As long as your new leaf pin will go though the old leaf and into the axle tube hole where it’s supposed to go you can. And clamp it to the new leaf springs...
They make those cheaper ones on eBay but I was looking at these myself and I probably wouldn’t get them because I’ve heard them spitting out from the fron but if you’re going to do it I’d go with these because they have the littl hole where the center bolt goes into where you would have to drill it out in your old one so for that reason I would rather buy em... If you’re going to cut yours I would do it at 18” and put some good leaf spring clamps on it.
I've been running one of these kits (not this specific brand) for about 2.5 years and have had no issues with it at all. Works with stock shocks too. I think Icon sells a kit like this if I remember right, it's just way more expensive than most other "mini spring" kits out there.
The kit I bought came with longer center pins (you might have to trim the pin a little bit depending on how many mini springs you use). I didn't have to clamp the leaf springs together when I added the mini springs. I will say that if you add all of the mini springs in their, it will be a little bit taller in the front than the back which I am not a fan of at all. I took a couple mini springs out and now it sits maybe a hair taller in the back, and it doesn't squat hardly at all when I tow.
I'd say about an inch to two inches would be about right like you said. Do you tow heavy often? If you don't tow that heavy very often and are looking for max ground clearance than I'd put all of the mini springs under there. If you tow heavy often, I'd be wary about how many mini springs you add. Each mini spring should be about a half inch thick if I remember right.
Currently, I have x-code springs under mine and only 1 mini spring. It's not perfectly level, but it's pretty close. I've been debating on adding another mini spring for a little more ground clearance, but just haven't found the time.
I put this on:
Pro Comp 22210 Front 2" Lift Leaf Spring Set of 2 for 1999-2004 Ford F250/F350
and this:
1999-2015 Ford F-250 F-350 Excursion 3" Rear Block Leveling Lift Kit 2WD 4WD PRO
So, basically I removed the stock front leaf springs.. put on the new 2" lift springs, and added 3 inches in the rear...
Seems like I still need more in the front as I added in rear. I thought I was keeping it relatively level, but didn't turn out that way.
No I do not tow much. I do mostly off roading on the beaches at cape hatteras, nc. no mall crawler here... I need true off road capability. Thats why i went with 35's with some meaty sidewalls.. no 24' rims here.
