I’m telling you guys they’re gonna bring it with this new Bronco. Ford is already all but out of the car business and going close to all in on just SUVs and trucks. They want a piece of that pie which includes Wranglers, Tacomas and Colorados. With the Ranger return and soon refresh they’ll no doubt take a big bite out of Tacoma. Bronco will have Wrangler fans as well contemplating life decisions real soon
I really really hope you are right, but having owned and built 3 Jeeps, I can tell you it will be much harder that you think to get the wrangler fans to make the switch unless the new bronco is nearly identical to the original rugged machine that they debuted in the 60s
It's this attitude that is killing me... And perhaps killing FoMoCo as well - the "I can't" attitude! A bankrupt Fiat/Chrysler can do it but FORD MOTOR COMPANY just "can't" !?!?! It is not IF they can do it it is if they WANT to do it. I am old enough to remember the debacle of the Mustang II and the point when the front wheel drive Ford Probe could have become the next Mustang. Ford can make good decisions and really terrible decisions!
If by debacle you mean 4 of the top ten annual sales of mustangs (ever) and beating year by year sales of mustangs for the past 20 years during the oil crisis, then yeah, Ford completely blew it. The Mustang II might be considered the ******* child of Mustangs but by every measurement a complete sales success. As Lee Iacocca said, ‘it was the right car at the right time’. I think it’s hard to say the Mustang II was a bad decision.
While I do believe the Bronco will be something good I’m not convinced it’ll compete directly with Wrangler people who actually use them... you know off roading. I do believe it’ll steal the most potential Wrangler buyers from the ones who buy them for the look... which is a lot of them. This said I think they’re are going to bring something off road worthy and of course aftermarket will more than fill in the gap.
I think with the new explorer being released with rear wheel drive it might share with the bronco
The Explorer shares a "CD6" unibody platform with the Lincoln Aviator, which is designed to be primary rear wheel drive (with available AWD).
The Bronco, however, is going to be body-on-frame, and that 'frame' in the name is a "T6" chassis that it shares with the Ranger, Everest, and Troller T4, which is capable of supporting solid or independent axles and all sorts of drive systems (the Troller T4 for example has a locking rear diff and Torsen limited slip front diff for solid axles).
What the Explorer and Bronco might share are the 10-speed automatic transmission Ford puts in nearly everything now, and hopefully the 3.0L V6 Ecoboost, which in the Explorer will be producing the same numbers that the 3.5L was doing for the outgoing 5th gen model (365hp and 380lbft). Plus some other engines probably, like the hybrid we'll find out about next week in Detroit.
On the optimism side, maybe the 7-speed manual MT-88 transmission could be seen in both, Explorer ST and off-road or performance oriented trims of the Bronco? Might as well finger-cross for the Coyote V8 too!
Ford makes most money on F150 sales. Bronco filled a void years ago. That being said, the 2020 will not be a nostalgia vehicle- that will not make shareholders money. I see this unfortunately as a BIG miss!

And if they do it right ?? ….. let's see what they come up with
i feel like ford prolly saw a bunch of cool renderings online and scraped their version...something doesnt seem right...i dont even think it will be revealed this year for MY 2020...now 2020 MY 2021
I have never seen anything officially from Ford referencing a MY 2020 Bronco. They always said "coming in 2020", which is intentionally ambiguous on model year. I would have expected it to be a MY 2021 vehicle released as early as August and as late as December 2020, provided there were no significant delays. And we're hearing there were delays. So we might see it in promotional materials and at auto shows in 2020, but probably won't be able to take one home until 2021. In order to build an assembly line, sheet metal stamping machinery, and ramp up production from various external suppliers for a 2021 "on sale" date, they would have to have a huge majority of things largely finalized by now - and probably some time ago. Manufacturers don't give firm dates until they are certain of a lot of things, as there are still many factors that could impact when the first wheels hit the end of the production line right up until that day. I wouldn't expect Ford to advertise a firm release date much more than 3 months prior.
Most of the hoopla around the Bronco is consumer generated. When we see more information from marketing, we'll know things are getting pretty close.
Allegedly, the silhouette behind the "baby Bronco" photo revealed at the dealer meeting is that of the near-final clay model. It has also been alleged that the design is final at this point, but it isn't known how much the near-final silhouette differs from what was actually finalized.
im thinking la auto show at the end of year if its gonna happen at all this year...there is also reports 2020 or 2021 f150 debut is before bronco so heres hoping that happens at texass state fair end of september. 2020 super duty numbers will also prolly be released when trucks start getting built in December
