Question Later Model Stock Radio with AUX & Bluetooth

Our 2001 Mercury Mountaineer has the radio pictured below, and has the factory subwoofer. I have seen different newer style radios installed in older trucks (primarily Super Duty) so I assume this can be done here. I know that some will say just get an aftermarket radio. I might agree except the primary drivers of this vehicle are a little older and they really dislike aftermarket radios that are not easy to figure out. So, my question is what newer model factory Ford radio will have and AUX port and Bluetooth for hands free calling. It also needs to have green illumination.

I remember reading about places that offered a service where you send in your older radio and they modify the internals. Does anyone have experience with that?

There are bluetooth and aux port add-ons that can be wired into the back of the radios of some models. You may try a search on that. It may be the easiest way. If you have controls on the steering wheel it gets a little more complicated. They make a wiring harness to add in an aftermarket radio but if you have the sub in the back it can be a mess.

It does have the factory sub in the rear. An aftermarket radio is out of the question anyway. My folks drive this vehicle and hate fooling with anything besides easy to use factory radios. I wouldn't mind an add on kit that allows these features. I did recently find a guy that modifies vintage car stereos and adds Bluetooth and AUX. I'm going to inquire and find out if he can alter our unit.
