On sale day, 360's magically become 390's!
4th digit of the VIN is the engine code. H = 390 2V / Y = 360 2V

The 71 is a pretty good looking truck. It may already have Disc Brakes on it. Since you are already prepared for a project go and look at it. I would give less for it if you don't hear it run though!

I'm looking at ads on Craigslist for an old Ford, my ranger seems to get smaller everyday so I'm looking for a full-size, flatbed, dually. I found two I like, one of them is a 71 and the other is a 78. I was hoping to get advice on which one seems like a better option, what questions to ask, and what to look out for.
My 1st truck was a 1968 F-100. It had a 352ci. engine and 3 on the tree trans.. It was a great vehicle and I put a lot of miles on it before finally selling it and then getting a 1978 F250. Both were great trucks and the 78 with the front disc brakes probably was a little better on an overall grading.
