I`m thinking about buying a 92 explorer sport this week, any problems I should look for?I`m paying $3,700 for it` is that the going sale price?
Thanks in advance everyone.
$3700 sounds OK depending on the mileage and overall condition. Couple of things to look out for:
- look for rust in the rear fenderwells and rocker panels
- If it's an automatic transmission, make sure there is no slippage or hesitation between gears and going from neutral to forward or reverse. The A4LD transmissions are somewhat notorius for going bad around 150k.
- If it's a 4x4, make sure the 4x4 actually works.
- Check the radius arm bushings(both sides). Usually the passenger side goes bad first since it's located so near the catalytic converter. Replacement of the bushings is a pain.
are 91-94 or 95 explorers notorious for rust around the back tires under the back doors (passenger or driver side). i have already had to get my explorer repainted once because of it, and noticed that almost every explorer i run across has rust in the same place. it could be because i live in omaha, nebraska. i noticed you said something about it, so i just wondered how common it is for explorer's to rust there?
