I was just reading this article and considering posting it myself. The article sounds pretty convincing but I would like to read the raw information filed in the law suit.
Once side of me thinks - how in the world can you even consider cheating on something like this. If it was an over planned action, multiple people in the engineering department would have to know and the ability for people to keep secrets etc. over long periods of time is pretty small.
The other side of me things - do all the manufactures do this to get past regulations? Is this just an "unspoken" way of dealing with the EPA and regulations?
Can’t imagine anyone doing this after VW got busted.
Given that this alleged cheating began in 2011, it was done long before VW got busted.
I am pretty disgusted at any automaker for breaking the law, because it will not help them in the long run.
If US diesel emissions standards can't be met, this should be addressed in a legal manner, or necessary technologies should be developed. I was a musclecar fan in the 60's and 70's and thought that the emissions requirements could NEVER be met with performance cars. I was dead wrong and technology won.
As an asthma sufferer who is also a car and truck fan, I can see both sides of the issue, but breaking laws is, well, a crime....

Thanks so much for saying this, and expressing reality when so many others simply want to rant about this and that, and how their way of life is going the way of the dinosaur. I sincerely hope Ford didn’t do this, but if they did, well, you’re right. It’s illegal and unnecessary. Technology will indeed advance to meet current needs, and it’s all for the good.
Manufacturers do not test "real world" to pass EPA. EPA is tested in a specific way in a controlled environment so all vehicles should be tested the same.
pretty sure majority of vehicles in "real world" environments exceed the limits. Especially these trucks that tow and pull hard. Thesse trucks will not test the same with 20k behind them going up a 7% grade then in a controlled lab.
Why is there a need for anyone to get political? There are emissions regs in place and automakers must meet them. They specify a test sequence and also specify that software must not "cheat" on that test sequence.
Breaking laws gets people and companies in trouble and it does not matter if they are left wing or right wing. If a company blatantly breaks laws for many years like VW did, they will probably eventually get caught and pay the price. I am hoping that Ford did not break the law because it will hurt the company and its employees.
ENOUGH of the politics and off-topic bickering. Nobody asked for a poll of who agrees or disagrees with the laws that exist, this thread is about whether or not they are followed.
Well, CA already vowed to only allow emission free vehicles by 2040.
Never mind they don't have enough electricity to run all of the A.C. in the summer, and just ignore all of the pollution spewed while generating the power, or making the batteries even.
They make the batteries in Nevada so we don't pollute our own air. Hah
My take here.... Let's speculate to sue for the information. We can try to prove our guess depending on what we find in the information rather than have anything factual to begin with. Just a money grab or try to bring Ford down. Yawnnnnnn.
