I fixed the firewall problem on my 88 f150 today. I caught it early and was able to use the $ 8.00 part. it took about 45 minutes, the hard part being getting the clutch interlock switch off.
after that, it is just a matter of undoing the nuts and putting the plate on the studs and rebolting.
once done there is a great difference in the pedal effort. I used to have to push real hard to get the truck to start, and getting in and out of first and reverse was sometimes a grindy affair. now it goes right in gear and starts easily.
don't wait to do this repair. the part and effort rquired is much more expensive and involved.
if the cracks are too big, you have to buy a $150.00 part and may need welding done. you also have to remove a ton of parts to get plate in place.
