I’ve got a cts turbo kit that I just pulled off a parts truck. I’m having a hard time separating the down pipe from the exhaust side of the turbo. Can anyone tell me how the down pipe is fitted to this, I’m assuming it’s just a taper fit thee didn’t appear to be anything holding it in other than one little bracket that supports the down pipe to the block. Also any trucks for separating them would be appreciated I let it soak in diesel for a few days then hit it with the rosebud won’t even budge
I have one that i have redone over the last couple of years. The small piece of angle iron is the only retention of the downpipe to turbo. I had the same issue you have. The downpipe is rusted into the turbo. There is a single metal seal ring. I secure it to a bench, soaked it, and used some heat and managed to get it loosened up. Go slow the last thing you want to do is break it.
The only piece I couldn't source was the seal ring. It was so badly rusted into the groove I just left it. On cold starts and stopped at a stoplight there is a slight smell but nothing terrible.
I am going to look at a second bracket to hold the downpipe into the turbo. it rattles a bit at idle.
Have around a $1000 into the project including a parts truck, so far excellent return on investment.
CTS was Canadian, nothing available that I found for the kit specifically but found everything to renew the system either at a truck exhaust shop or injection shop,
I had this ship to shore stuff on there that breaks just about anything apart got it smoking hot with the rosebud torch and then proceeded to wail on it with a hammer I didn’t break it but it sure is being stubborn
