Hello all, Just purchased a 2004 limited v10 with 103000 miles on it. First off let me say I have searched for an excursion for several years now and just sold my brand new 16 F150 and purchased my dream excursion. Its a one owner older retired couple that rarely used it. Anyway I was wondering what preventative things I need to have done or checked and what problems I could be on the look out for. So far after gathering up records from previous owner all that was ever done was normal oil change and the serpentine belt replaced. What all should I have done? I just had 3 of the manifold bolts replaced and new manifold gasket but I knew that going into it. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Im also looking at doing many upgrades and mods in the future. I for sure want the hellwig sway bar, double front steering stabilizer because I can already feel the play in the steering wheel. Also I tow a 8000lb camper so any upgrades I may need for towing that as well? haven't hooked it up and towed yet, have to wait till spring for that. I have been scrolling the threads for days now making lists and ideas but figured id just post and see what info I can get. Thanks again
I think the tech folder will give you a lot of good info. especially if towing I think springs are going to be your first needed mod. springs and red head gearbox if you have play will make a huge difference in ease of drive.
First - congratulations on the best vehicle purchase in your life!
In terms of towing, as long as your suspension, wheel bearings and steering components are fresh/ or at least not worn out, there is nothing you really need to do. If worn, replace and get it up to snuff and enjoy!
The steering play is all about the steering gear box and not at all about the lack of dual steering dampeners!
Nice find! Sounds like the perfect deal for any 'forever' vehicle...find it from an older person/couple who just drove it nice and maintained it. Right on man, sounds like a sweet one
