Mines been done. No idea "how many" overall....I doubt anyone does.

That article is pretty old...

That recall from 2005 (05S28) had nothing to do with steering.

It's pretty simple get the O.A.S.I.S report from a dealer.

Here's an excerpt from this article - https://www.lawyersandsettlements.co...ise-01619.html
"The problem is apparently a cruise control deactivation switch that can overheat and cause a fire under the hood of the vehicle. The switch involved in the recall was supplied by Texas Instruments, Inc. and shuts off the cruise control when the driver steps on the brakes firmly. The deactivation switch is attached on one end to the brake master cylinder and wired to the cruise control on the other end. On most vehicles the switch is powered all the time, even when the vehicle is off.
Fires can occur when the film that separates brake fluid from the electrical components in the deactivation switch breaks and the fluid seeps onto the electrical components."

And more info -
https://www.autosafety.org/ford-crui...s-and-history/
https://www.youfixcars.com/ford-cruise-control-recall/

The "fix" is adding an inline fuse to the deactivation switch harness which was previously unfused and a new switch.

judging from the ones I"ve been looking at on used lots around here, only about 2/3 have been fixed.

Does anyone know if the deactivation switch actually changed with 2004 and 2005 Excursions to exempt it from the recall? After all, they did expand this recall once.

On that note, has anyone with a later one tried to install the jumper harness/fused link in a 2004 or 2005? I know you probably can't get one from a dealer new since it isn't part of the recall, but I'm sure finding one in a junkyard is easy. Even if my switch is of a different design, I feel like I'd rather have it fused regardless.

The recall was unnecessary for 04-05 Excursions as they were wired differently from prior affected models.

It is NOT necessary to retrofit the later models, the protection is already built in should the pressure switch leak and short. The circuit is HOT IN RUN and has it's own 2A fuse (F24 in the CJB).

which was previously unfused and a new switch.
Actually, it was fused but at 20A on an ALWAYS HOT circuit. The 20A fuse was too high and the leaky switch could catch on fire before the fuse ever blew. Other models has the pressure switch on a 15A fuse and they would "sometimes" blow, taking out the brake lights.

New switches were installed as part of the recall ONLY if they were found to be leaking at the time the recall service was performed.

Awesome, thanks for all the info! I can sleep better now.

Is the 2004/2005 switch the same as the early switch and just wired differently, or is it an entirely different switch too? Just thinking ahead, if the switch leaked before and is the same one, it may here too, even if it doesn't cause a fire due to the different wiring setup.

I don't know if the switch from the factory on the 04-05 was different or the same as the earlier versions. Sorry.

You can also unplug the harness, jumper the plug on the end, wrap it up good, and call it a day. It is a redundant switch. You can still kill it with the brake, and also simply turn it off, you would never know the difference. If your cruise is periodically inop, suspect this switch.

The recall doesn't fix the problem, which is a leaky switch, it simply provides protection when it fails and shorts out. <-- Lame

Mine's not done and I loathe the thought of someone I don't know and don't watch working on my Excursion.

Probably won't get it done. Better than all the careless things that could be done by someone unfamiliar with current mods, gauges, etc.

You can buy the parts kit for $20 and do it yourself, if you choose to.

Do you have a part number, and what does it consist of?

Thanks.
