60/40 barn door handle replacement...

2003 E350 - handle works but is loose, behind the handle the plate that has (2) "big rivet head looking" fasteners has cracked in the middle so it is now two pieces each held at its end by one fastener. the middle separates when you pull the handle to open the door. (sorry no camera, no pics, no clear pics online)

I can't find a video or how-to and the replacement handles for sale don't show fasteners, are they rivets? Would the locksmith have these fasteners? Maybe they have machine screws holding them in place from behind?
