I own a 1996 Ford F-150 and the ground terminal on the battery was corroded, so I cut it off and replaced it, but now the truck will not start. I get the lights on the radio the windows go up and down, but no idiot lights on the dash and no cranking, so I arced the solinoid on the fender wall and get the truck to crank, but it will not start. The other thing I think is wierd is when I go to start the truck the fuel pump does not whine like it used too. Please any help would be appreciated. My next step is to replace the entire ground cable to the block, I think it is either broken or corroded.
frfghter 73's post is a good idea. It reminded me of the possibilty you may have burnt up some of your other ground wires. Since the large one was faulty, the current may have tried to go through some smaller ground wires and may have melted them in two.
On the starter relay that you jumped, one side has the large battery cable. Connected with the battery cable are some smaller wires with fusible links. Pay special attention to the yellow wires and check to make sure none of the fusible links are burnt out. This is where the voltage from the battery feeds the rest of the truck.
there is no yellow wire, just a large red one and a smaller red one, but what is wierd is the the idiot lights dont come on, someone suggested the starter relay on the fender, how can you check that? Please help the next step is to tow it to the dealer and that is expensive.
