MAF Sensor problem
I have a 93 Crown Vic bearing a 4.6L SOCH. I seem to be having some trouble with the MAF sensor. When I first purchased the car the MAF gave me some problems so I replaced it and everythng was fine. I did notice what looked like a carbon buildup on the elements of the old sensor. Now 3 months later this buildup seems to have returned. I'm assuming that the engine isnt running right because the MAF is sending the inccorect information to the ecu since the elements are being insulated by whatever this build up is. I would like to know if this is a common problem? I dont think it is my air filter, its just an ordinary fram filter that seems pretty clean. There doesent seem to be any noticeable blowby althought there is a dry brown stain on the MAF housing that looks like it could have been oil......is it safe to clean the elements? Or coud this even be the problem??? I guess I should note the loss of power, occaional pop (backfire?), and a sluggish motor....when the MAF is unpluged motor revs fine...thanks!!
