starter not disengaging
Problem with my 93 Explorer, 127K miles, one owner, well maintained.
Starter died, so I replaced it. The replacement starter seemed not to disengage. THREE more replacement starters, and a known good starter off of another 93 Explorer all seem to fail to disengage. After the second starter, I also replaced the starter relay.
The problem does not seem to lay with the ignition switch. I pulled the fuel pump relay so the engine would not start, and when the key is returned to run from the start position, the starter motor stops running.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm tired of changing starters - I can do it in about fifteen minutes flat now ....
