I have a leak between the tranny and t case. I have tried searching the form and can’t seem to find anything on replacement of the input shaft seal on the t case. I’ve read there is no rear seal on the 4r100 so I am assuming it has to be the input seal on t case? I just had the tranny rebuilt and now have this problem, was not leaking before the rebuild. Can the input shaft seal on t case get torn taking it out? Anybody have any write up or know how to replace the seal? Hopefully it’s easy and can be done at home.
I see a parts diagram which is helpful but still no instructions on how to replace the seal. Anybody done this before? Do I have to spilt the case or can it just be pulled out from
the front?
Got the seal today and looks as though it can be replaced from the outside but would love confirmation. As well does it just pop in or does in need some type of sealant to hold it in? Anybody done this before?
Yep but when I ask them today at the shop that did tranny they said they reused the old one. So I don’t know if it’s just that seal possiblely. But from what little I can find it is supsoe to be dry inside that connection so I don’t know why fluid would be in there to get past that paper seal.
ATF does enter the extension housing from the trans side. There is a lube orifice in the rear of the case and fluid from the output shaft bushing entering that cavity.
So it’s possible just the paper gasket is torn or something and leaking that way? It’s a very slow leak and only get a penny sized puddle on driveway but I don’t like leaks and it’s driving me nuts.

Yes. That would be the first place I'd suspect; especially since it wasn't leaking before the rebuild.
Ok well I grabbed a new one of those when I grabbed the input seal. Wonder if I have to drop the t case to get that paper seal in or if I can slip it in there just taking the bolts out. I will have to try one of these nights I guess and see if that will fix the issue. Thanks for all your help!

You will have to fully separate the two to install the gasket; otherwise you would have to cut the gasket to fish it in around the shafts.
That would make sense now woudnt it. Sometimes my brain just dosent want to work. Guess I will go find a write up on how to pull the t case and hopefully get after it this week.
Well got t case down last night and definitely have a leak on the input seal for t case. Can see fluid coming out there. Super slow leak but it’s there. So put the new paper gasket in and we will see what happens for now but I guess I will be cracking open the t case and replacing that input seal. This will be fun I guess. Really wish I knew more how to replace that darn input seal.
The gasket should stop the external fluid lead. The seal wouldn't be the cause since it would be within the extension housing. Check your breather hose on the transfer case. A restriction could cause a pressure build up within the case
