99 engine block drain plugs

I was changing the oil/filter in the expy the other day and decided I should probably drain and flush the radiator (never been flushed - 75k miles). After looking around, I couldn't locate the engine block drain plugs. The Haynes manual says they are "generally" one to two inches above the oil pan with one on each side of the block. Anyone know where ford hid them?

Thanks in advance,
Philip

Philip-

I looked up the flush & fill procedure in the factory manual. It doesn't mention the block plugs, and states that "80% of the coolant can be reclaimed with the engine/radiator still in the vehicle". This procedure just deals with popping the cap off of the coolant bottle and opening the draincock in the bottom of the radiator. I would just drain it this way, fill it back up with regular H20, run the engine for a bit, and repeat. I would do this maybe once or twice, then refill it with 50/50 antifreeze/H20. I think you'll get most of it out this way.

Good luck!

99ExpyTN, The drain plugs are there. You have to really LOOK for them they can easily be overlooked. They are recessed in the block, you insert a rachet head either 3/8 or1/2 I dont remember. You get very little benefit for ALOT of trouble. The pass side is accessible, though not easily. The drivers side however, to access it you have to pull the starter. Like Matt said, just do a regular flush and you will be fine.

Thanks for the input......I had decided that even if I could find them, getting a wrench on them would be almost impossible. I think I'll just drain and flush and be done with it.

Thanks again,
Philip
