Brother-in-laws 7.3 IDI dropped a valve, head, piston and cylinder are toast. Already ordered another engine. Looking to do the swap over New Years weekend.
I have searched the threads looking for ideas to either pull the front clip or go over the top the old fashioned way. Only decent thread I found is so old the pictures don't load. Anybody know of a good link or thread for a walk through? I have done a ton of engine swaps over the years but nothing diesel or on a 1990.
Depends on what equipment you have available. Just a cherry-picker, yeah pull the front clip because the picker will be next to impossible to move. If you have a skid steer or good sized tractor it's pretty easy after you take the fan off and use a come-along or rachet strap to pull the nose way up. Start PB blasting every nut and bolt on the fenders, core support, etc. Here in the rust belt every other bolt/quick nut will strip and make it a bear to remove the front clip.
