Red paint ALWAYS fades to some shade of pink and it seems to begin fading a lot sooner than other colors. That sucks because I like red or red/black combos.
Funny you say that about the red fading to pink, because when I asked my kid what color he thinks I should pick pink was his response.......kind of a smart a$$. I have absolutely no idea where he gets it from.....
Count me in the crowd to say use your Taurus as inspiration. That’s one great looking car, & it looks like that’s the way the interior of your van is already progressing. Black & blue certainly look fine together, as the Taurus demonstrates, so why not have a match to a beauty of a car you already own!

I think I am kind of leaning toward this.
I like the blacked out van idea, but I am thinking there would be too many drawbacks with it.
Go crazy with the black, you can do more than what’s on your Taurus for certain, like the rocker panel ideas. I’m assuming black trim & wheels are a given. But no matter how far you go, there’ll always be some blue left I’m sure, even if it’s the carpet (or are you planning on doing the seats & floor in the interior as well?). So I’m not certain how I’d distribute the blue & black, but that Taurus looks awesome! So I’m sure you’ve got some great ideas.

I would do the rockers, bumpers, grill and window trim in black. If possible I would also like to do the mirrors and door handles.
I plan on removing all the trim and badges......just leaving the 1 Ford badge on the grill.
Inside I plan on replacing the carpet, painting all the trims as well as dash parts. When doing the carpet I will cover the doghouse as well. Looking at seat cover option.
That just leaves the dash, the panels (door etc) and the headliner. I was toying with the idea of using a brushed diamond plate for all the panels. They are all flat and I could use the originals as templates. Not sure, but I will need to do something with them. I figure I may be able to use a fabric die on the headliner. Not sure about the dash.
Would the dash be the same type of plastic as the side panels are? From your pic it looks like those took to paint very well. Or is the dash top a softer type of plastic? Wow your plans sound incredible, it’ll look awesome once you’re done!

It is softer plastic. Once I get things taken apart I will take a closer look. If it isn't that much more work I will pull it. If it's a pain I will leave it and figure something else out.
If you’re still thinking a blue/blac combo, the blue dash might be a softer plastic & hard to paint, but would the wood grain pieces take black paint? They must be a harder plastic. Or maybe you’re just like me & like those pieces .
Or, do they still sell those dash carpet pieces? If they do, and for vans this old, one of those might be available in black to reduce the amount of blue.

The wood grain pieced would work to paint. I am thinking I will probably paint those.
I remember those carpet dash covers. I may look in to it, but I am thinking I wouldn't like the carpet dash look.
