When I came across a special edition of Train's mag.(Great Train's Freight holiday 2017) A compilation of vintage articles of the past reprinted. I couldn't resist picking up a copy as one of the featured articles titled "Following Mr. Goodson's Ford" followed the story of the shipping of a 62 Galaxie from assembly line to dealership with a heavy slant on the rail portion of the shipment. And I particularly like this shot at a transfer facility where there are what appear to be five 59 model year only I am assuming "Big Jobs" in one place at one time just going about their daily buisiness.
I always like seeing shots of loaded autorack freight cars (no matter what make the autos were) back in the day before they put all of the shielding on the sides of the racks. Be kinda cool though to see some shots of autoracks loaded with 57-60 f series on em'.
Also found out the right way to deliver Studebakers.
I find it hard to believe how wimpy the decking and trailers look considering the weight of the cars that would have been being hauled in the 50s & 60s
When I see these pictures I always try to figure out how they load and unload them. It must have been a real chore and taken quite a while. I don't see any hydraulic cylinders, so it was crank using "Armstrong" power.
Most likely a 57 C series I'm thinkin' going by the emblems. single headlights and low mounted marker lights, rare to see the marker lights down there. mosta' the time that area has just embossed stars. Never the none the less....pretty beat up for a couple year old truck.
I'd luv a C series but wayyy too rich for my blood. Sure... ya can pick em up on the cheap, but tires, parts, tools etc. can get pretty 'spensive for those big trucks, not to mention where to park it.
