I took my car to the dealership because I noticed the odometer wasn't working. It is supposed to be covered under the extended warranty. Well, they called me and told me that the odometer hasn't worked for the last 6months (I noticed 2 weeks ago) and then the warranty is void.
I know, I should have noticed, but I didn't. Now I've lost all the money of the extended warranty.
Because 6 months ago I took it had a problem with a fuse that was replaced. I even think that the odometer could have been damaged then, because now it is showing the same mileage. AND I DIDN'T NOTICE!!!
Now I wonder if there is a way to know the actual mileage of the vehicle. Because there is no way that I could drive in 6 months the 45000 miles that I had left in my warranty.
Its not that you used up your warranty its that you let the problem go for so long without repair. I understand that you didnt notice (kinda weird though....how did you manage oil changes?) but that doesnt matter to them. I still think they should fix it albeit with a strong warning.
I know that's their point, that I waited so long to repair it. Sincerely, I don't know how I didn't notice (too much work, a wife and a baby maybe?). And I always do the oil changes every three months. I don't o it by mileage because I know that in 3 months I drive less than 3000 miles.
I would look at challengeing, that they should have fixed it when they fix the fuse. Becouse the dealers are to test drive after the repairs are done, And check everything out before they give you the truck/suv back. I would call ford customer service and talk to them. Can't hurt. Check your reseat see if it shows if they did a safety ckeck on your truck/suv. If they did you got them. Call anouther dealer talk to them.
I agree, you are getting shafted. I don't see where it matters how long it was before you noticed there was a problem. I could see if you had a leak or something and ended up burning up a motor but not this.
I'd go to a different dealership, but I purchased the car at Carmax and have the extended warranty with them (MaxCare they call it).
I don't know if I could go to another dealer.
But dogman, I appreciate the idea of fighting over the issue that the last time I brought the car, the odometer was already broken (or they broke it there) and they didn't fix it.
Is there anything else I could do?
They should at least refund part of the cost of the warranty if its reasonably obvious that you couldnt have driven however many miles it is good for...
