another VIN decode question

Hello All! New to the forum as well as the old ford truck world. Been looking for an old F100 for years and finally bought an F250 this week. I've been searching the forum and web for help decoding the VIN and have gotten most of this figured out. The one thing I'm struggling with is the year. I believe it is somewhere in the "301988" part of the serial but can't figure out how to tell. If anyone can help or maybe point me in the direction of help it would be greatly appreciated! I'm not sure what color "M" is either but I'm mostly concerned about figuring out the year at this point. Thanks
