Guy in a '98 parked next to me couple of days ago, truck was pristine, one owner before him, he had just bought it. Only had 55k mi, seats had aways been covered, looked near new.
Extended cab, F 250, DUALLY, with gasser 460 engine! Sadly I did not have my cell fone with me, it was in my 5th and I should have asked him to wait while I got it to take a pic.
He knew nothing about trucks, other than he had just bought a trailer and needed a cheap truck. He told a mech friend who worked at a Ford house and he told him about this truck they had taken in on trade and it had been sitting there for almost a year and never sold, so he went over and looked at it and bought it for $900. The trailer was small about 2500 lbs max.
So for you old time F guys, F 250 gasser DUALLY???? Normal or rare as hens teeth.
Sorry Don, not possible as a stock vehicle. Perhaps somebody modified it.
1998 was an interesting year for the heavy duty Ford trucks. See, 1997 was the last year of production for the old body style (OBS) Fords, and 1999 was the first year of the "Super Duty" Fords as we know them. There were no model year 1998 F-350's produced. However, you could buy a 1998 F-250, but this was actually the new body style F-150 (from 1997, looked like the Expedition, very rounded). This "250" was really just a heavy-half ton truck...a 1998 F-150 with slighter heavier suspension and axles. These trucks had 7-lug rims.
There are no factory F-250 duallys, it would be pointless given the GVWR sticker on the door.

Thanks, I and he knew nothing about it, appreciate the info.

To piggyback off of this, I dont think they put the 7.5L 460 in the '99 and up superdutys so the truck in question was most likely a '92-'97 OBS. Who knows, maybe even older!
My suspicion is that this was a 92-97 F-350, super cab, dually that someone had put F-250 badges on (for whatever reason). IIRC, 1999 was the year they came out with the V10 (or maybe it was shortly after)...
Just to throw mud on this thread. Re-guarding the way ford named and badges these.
I have a 1992, dually with a 460. The fender badges say F350. It has a 14,000 GVW !
Certain parts are a challenge for this truck. Now when looking up parts or running the VIN it shows up as an F450 or Superduty. It started life as a Canadian built cab and chassis.

The original F-450 C&C was badged "F-SuperDuty". The only visual difference between it and the F-350 C&C were the wheel lugs... the 450 had 10, the 350 had 8, but both were 16-inch dually rims.
Just my two cents. My dad got his early 99 superduty in like may if 98. There weren't any 98 superduty's. His buddy got a left over (old body style 97) which did actually have the 5.4 triton in it for like dirt cheep. I beleave the 99 superduty was the longest production run of any superduty. The 11's and 17's had a long run but I thing 99 was like 18 months. I remember when getting parts for it though we had to specify early 99 because some stuff was different.

I wasn't aware any old body style trucks had the 5.4L engine in them. Not saying it isn't true, but those trucks were designed for the old 302's, 351's, and 460's. I imagine the mounts would have been different and there might have been height clearance issues too, since the old engines were all OHV and the 5.4L is OHC. I know the 5.4L was available in 1997 model year Expeditions and F-150's.

I had one of the 1997 OBS F Super Duty trucks with 7.3 diesel. It was actually a bucket truck with an Altec bucket on it.
Also had a 2001 F450 with V10. By that time the body style had been updated and the F450 designation was being used.
Around Y2K I rented a U-Haul truck that was a '92-'97 generation F-350 DRW. It had a build date on the sticker in the drivers door jamb of 1/98. I thought that was very strange as I didn't think that they could build '97 MY vehicles in '98 but according to that sticker they did.
