Detailing Your SD

Alright, I ended up getting a black SD and this was my first black vehicle. God! I didn't know how easy it is to get dirty. My question is, does anyone detail their truck themselves? If so, what products do you use and what is your method?

LOL....Congrats on the new truck.

You sir are correct about a black vehicle.........they are a PITA to keep clean and after having owned three black vehicles a few years back, never again will I own another one.

With that being said, i`d say give a company like Adams a call or go onto their website. They will lead you in the right directions if you`re a DIY type of guy because you really have to worry about scratches and water spots on a black vehicle.

As an alternative, look into a detail shop that does ceramic coatings.

Hope this helps.

Regardless of the truck color, the dirt will always be a color that shows up really well on it. Black dirt on a white truck, white dirt on a black.
Since mine's brand new, I haven't done more than vacuum it out. But I do have a boat that I keep polished, and intend to use the same system on my truck when I get to that point.
The Porter Cable 7424XP is, in my opinion, the best buffer you can get for the job. Beyond that, foam pads, sealer, polish, cloths, are pretty much personal taste. As long as you don't buy cheap general purpose micro fiber towels, you'll be alright.
Chemical Guys have a bunch of youtube videos covering pads, polishes, etc.

My truck is white. After nearly a dozen new black vehicles over the past decade, I went with white on the SD for this very reason.

Automatic car wash once to twice a week. It's a truck, not a Z06 (which I used to only wash by hand).

Meguiars Black Wax and Meguiars Ultimate wash and wax. I just waxed it for the second time yesterday. Cant say enough good things about the Black Wax. Wash it once a week with the wash and wax and the black wax every 6 months. The wash and wax helps the hand wax last longer. My wife says Im a little ocd though, lol.

Black looks sharp when clean. But, no more dark colored vehicles for me anymore. White or silver -- Easy to clean and looks clean longer. I always hand wash. Finished washing both trucks yesterday:

8o% of my Ford trucks have been tan...1995- current, except for my 2011 when I went with the dark brown because they did not have the tan. I literally had this truck washed weekly. So happy Ford came out with the white gold,...I can go over 2 weeks and it still looks clean.

Love this color and truck.

wash and quick dry, followed with a spray on wax has been treating me well. Its quick and easy. I'm using some Turtle Wax soap right now and I use Griots Garage spray on wax, makes the paint feel smooth as butter but definitely attracts dust. After seeing how bad a car wash ruins the paint on my titan i try not to run the ford through the car wash. The Toyota gets the same treatment, its got a roof rack so no car washes for that thing either.

I'm using meguiars ultimate liquid wax every 3-4 months. I wash with the same ultimate every week and every other week I use the spray wax after my wash. Been working well using that same regiment since my black 15

I have used the Ultimate liquid, I think its very hard to remove totally and never really dries to a haze and doesnt help with swirl marks. Have you noticed this? I switched to the Black wax and its daylight and dark, you should give it a try.

I traded in my 2015 F-150 tuxedo black for my ‘17 SD. Had 31,000 mi on it and always used a foam cannon to wash it and very lightly used a good wash mit. I used Jescar paint sealant topped with Griots Liquid Poly, after washing I would use Megs Synthetic X-press wax, it’s available in a gallon size on Amazon. If I had any paint correction to do I used Griots ultimate compound or Megs ultimate polish. I always loved the look of Black when it was kept up. Good Luck
