Thank you for adding me into the Ford Forum. I have a 2001 Ford F150 4x4 v8 short bed super crew XLT Truck. This is my first Ford truck. I am lost as to how to fix my issues that are going on with this beast. If i may... The truck started with this screaming scrapping metal like sound coming from what i thought was by the wheels. I searched on here as to what to do and learned about the heat shield and i checked that. I learned how to check the iwe and the vacuum lines and the solenoids by the firewall and i have checked also spinning the wheels and so on. My ABS light is on. And i finally was standing outside the truck with the hood up when it made the sounds again. I no longer think its the wheels or the 4x4. it sounds internal into the engine. so i youtubed it and ended up changing the idler pulley and tensioner ( however its spelled). Today while driving my son to school it screaming and scrapping sounds the whole way, i get out a block away from his school so not to embarrass him too much i turn off the truck pull the keys all in one motion like all of us. well the truck kept running for at least 30 secs. is it the starter the starter solenoid , ignition switch??/ im at a loss. my only mode of transportaion. any advice much needed and appreciated.
