I have a 93 F150 5.0 5 speed standard trans. The engine has 226000 miles on it an is missing in one cyl. due to 40lbs compression. It has a new AC compressor, alum.radiator, clutch an flywheel, rebuilt seat bottom, brake pads an is in good body condition. Paint is ok. Also has a bed shell. I will not repair the engine because its age and cost an at my age I'm not going to do it myself. I want to sell it next summer an will be buying something else.My mechanic and myself think the cam is shot.
Big issues like engine trouble automatically make it a parts truck. Next owner likely also will be reluctant to tackle repairs because a decent engine rebuild likely would exceed the value of the truck.
I likely would not even be willing to go $1000 in the condition you describe.
If the engine is toast, $500 is about all I would pay. If the rest of it is decent it may be worth looking for a replacement engine and swap it out. I paid $600 for my truck 9 years ago, blew the rear main seal, then paid $350 for a POS truck with solid 60K engine and a junk body and frame. I found a mechanic that would swap it out while being allowed to keep the scrap truck and engine for scrap weight.
Might be a great project vehicle for a kid to work on...
