the paint on my rims are pretty bad w/ a lot of chipping and a lil rust. i was thinkin about painting them black. any thoughts on whether this would look nice or what color do you suggest?? check out my gallery so u can get an idea...
I painted my stock steel rims gloss black. I used rustoleum from Home Depot, and they look pretty good, I think. I would send you a picture, but I don't have any.
I think you should clean up, sand, and prep your wheels, then get some of Ford's famous Argent (silver), its a little hard to find, may have to get from a dealer, 2 cans should be plenty to make your wheels look just like new again.
Argent has been used on lots of Ford products since the 60s for wheels, trim, etc, and will really make your wheels look great, there is absolutely no comparing to any other "silver" paint that is available in stores.
Our club store may have a line on Argent paint for you.
You may want to change your signature line to say Inline 6 or I-6 instead of v6 there is not a 4.9L v6. The only v6 in the 87-96 trucks were made in mexico and Argentina.
Just makes you sound like you know at least what you drive.

I did this on my bare bones XL about a year ago. I just picked a warm silver paint from the shelves of the local auto parts store, and I think two cans was enough to do all four wheels. I worked at a service shop at the time, so during the course of a week I pulled one wheel off the truck, (replaced with the spare) and dismounted and painted the wheel. This did a couple of good things - first, it was very easy to sand the wheel because it wasn't attached to anything, and it made it easy to paint - no masking. I let the paint dry for a day or so, then installed new valve stems and remounted the tire. Just remember what color you picked. The paint has held up perfectly, and looks ten times better than it did when it was flaking!!!
