Hi i just bought my first truck its a 91 F150 4x4 5.8ltr v8 Auto with all the Options.
It is in almost new condition and looks 98% even though it has 176,000Miles on it,The engine runs strong and when i got it it had a Dirty K&N filter in it so i cleaned it up and was on my way and all i have to say is that i couldnt be More happy with this truck.
I dont know much about Drive train and so on so i have a few questions,I hear model numbers for tranny's like E40D and was wondering what kind is in my truck,I was also wondering what the factory HP output is on this 351?
I will be changing the oil in about 2-3 days so should i use thicker oil in this high mileage engine or does it matter what oil i use to keep it running.
I know when i change the sparkplugs that i should use original equpment but has anyone tried Bosh or A.C Delco in there's and if so did they work fine,The only reason i ask is because i put a bosh in my ATV and it made it run very hot and there was less throttle responce.
The mulfer was replaced in 1999 and has a Lifetime warrenty and there is also a new Alternator is there anything that i should check to make shure that it will get me to where im going with out problems.
Sorry about all the question's but i just want ot keep it running and a buddy says his Chevy will last longer and i hope to prove him wrong.
OK, To start off your engines output is 210HP@3800RPM; 315FT.LBS@2800RPM ; Bore and stroke is 4.00x3.50 ; and 8.8:1 compression ratio. Now your tranny I'm assuming you have a E4OD but Check your trans pan it will be big and rectangle and have about a 2"inch by 2"inch drop for the pickup if so its an E4OD. If it is an AOD-E or AOD it will be more square will not be that big, do you have push buton O.D . Ok got it?. The oil Ford motor co. says to use is 5Wx30. But what kind of climate do you live in if cold 5Wx30 if warm 10wx30. I also use semi-synthetic but that's my preference. Sparkplugs, I've used motorcraft and autolites .99 cent plugs, and both are very good, I also sidegap them for better hp and gas milage but they only last 10k or so. I have not used Bosh or AC delco so I dont know. what else should you do, I would check or change the antifreezze. What kind of gas mileage are you getting, do a tune up change the, O2 sensor, plug wires, cap and rotor, pcv valve, check the drive belt and replace it, any thing else that you think that has alot of miles on change.

That's a good vehicle for your first truck. I got mine lasy year and the only difference is it's got a 302. With your truck, check all the basics under the hood, belts, filters, compression, and sensors. Also check for the rear seal on the T-case, it might be leaking, I've seen a lot of these do it. Another thing is it has a TTB (twin traction Beam) front end (IFS) And on the brackets in the center of the truck the bolts tend to come loose sometimes. Check those. Should be a 5/8". What kind of gas mileage are you getting? You should probably do a tune-up soon with that many miles. Maybe clean your injectors here before long. I do all of that stuff every year. I'm also a little protective of my truck. As for the plugs, I just run th .99 cent Autolites. Don't put in Bosch's, do your American made truck a favor and use American parts. The only thing I use. If you have any questions about your truck I've had some experience with mine. you can e-mail me at big_ford_dude(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
Congratulations on buying your first Ford truck! Remember, time spend behind the wheel of a Ford truck is not deducted from ones lifespan. I would use the oil the manual calls for. My 84 F150 (my boss's now) has 186,000 miles on it and still uses 10w30 and works just fine and doesn't burn any oil.
