Thinking i mite use (layered) flexi seal were the factory used rubber strips between the skid plate and tank.
When I was installing the tanks back in my project and the factory "pads" were junk and could not be used I went hunting and found indoor /outdoor fake grass rug.
I cut it in strips to fit between the tank and straps and where the tank hit the holders on the frame.
The back of the rug was black so I put the green grass side to the tanks.
Being plastic like it should not hold water and not fall apart like some other stuff one might use.

Hi Olds64,
Shall do. It may be awhile.
Ol'blue has front end issues. Wont do anything above 50 mph and dosent hold any any oil in front differential.
haven't decided if i am going to do it or have the local shop do it. Probably have the shop do it.
then i can finally license it.

Hi jcris,
i broke down a spent $22 on one from the local ford dealership Andersons ford. If i had one shipped it would take a week and i would only save a few bucks. Thank you though.

I would like to correct something I said earlier in this old thread. I said you can take the upper straps out, and swap them to the bottom. You can, but I found out it puts the tank up against the bottom of the bed. That's not a real problem until you take the bed off. I think it's best to leave the upper straps in place, and get some more straps for the bottom. I think someone mentioned that in another thread on these tanks, but unless I missed it, it's not brought up in this thread.

The F26D tank from Spectra Premium includes spacer hardware to use your original straps based upon my research and looked consistent across various retailers.

Hi Olds64,
as requested I am reporting on the rear 38 gallon tank conversation. It's been a few of years since I did the conversion and I will have to say it's one of my top two favorite upgrades. Favorite being the lockers front and rear.
the 38 gallon rear tank is a great low buck upgrade. I highly recommend it.

Update after 3 1/2 years.

Still love this Modification even with gas prices what they are. With a 38 gallon tank i can drive to work for two weeks without refilling.
I highly recommend this Modification to anyone who wants a simpler fuel set up.

I have a 1996 7.5L gasser and would love to do this upgrade, but I can't find a retailer for my truck.
They seem to only make a diesel tank. Has anyone seen otherwise?

Check LMC truck for your year. I know they have 38 gallon tanks for 80-86. It may fit your 96. I'm thinking sender and fuel pump is gonna have to be matched to your truck as I think yours is EFI

for the 80 86 the tank should be the same gas or diesel. The senders will be different depending on your fuel system requirements.

Diesel and gas use the same tanks. Different senders, but the same tanks. Chassis/cab trucks do use a different tank.
