Last time we were out in the forest on the 4-wheelers we were the 2nd bike in line. The first bike was kind enough to leave a huge Bannana spider web hanging across the path we were on. We did the nice thing and also ducked under it to leave it for one of the bikes behind us to deal with. I'm not gonna purposely touch one of those things.....Eeeewwww
I am an Aussie - I do not think it is a wuss that worries about spiders - I hate 'em, always have, always will. I am used to far worse ones than the US has to offer. I have not been bitten by the Brown recluse, thankfully, but a widow got me a couple of years back.. The danged thing was in my bed, and got me three times, before I got it. Made me feel rather ill for a week.
Today I saw the weirdest looking spider I have ever seen. It was bright green, with a 1 inch long, very narrow body, and narrow head, with long light brown legs. It was not aggressive, it kept on trying to hide, but the darn thing was too big. I was putting a piece of steel into the back of the /02, when it popped up from behind the light guard.... I poked it with the key and it just moved away, getting out of the way. That kind of spider is not too bad, but I still didn't want the thing wandering over my truck, so I flicked it off with the keys, and it shot across the car park faster than a roach in a hurry.
Theo - I did not pick you for an aussie, you're right about the spiders & snakes out here, far worse than anything that you guys have to put up with over there. And they keep trying to take our guns off us so we can't defend ourselves.
Walking through the woods, and that pile of leaves you just stepped on turns out to be a rotting corpse in a shallow grave. And you didn't bring a camera. .
"Awl ra-ite neow, we gut arselves a big ol croc, en hes a mean wun! Jus wun byte frum hez uge jaws an it's lytes aowt fu ol Theo. Totally bonzer! Fair dinkum!"
I learned the Australian lingo from Outback Steakhouse

I ate a spider at work a while back - he was rapelling down to the sales floor, and I was overcome with stupidity. I was like "Hey guys - check this out!" Ran up and CHOMP.
Unfortunately, I haven't developed any super powers.....yet......
I also hate spiders. Snakes don't bother me. In fact I have one for a pet but spiders give me the creeps.
But how's this for wierd. At work there was a black widow spider making her web in the corner of the plant. Usually I squash them but there was a big moth I swated out of the air and droped it into her web. She pounced on it and wraped it up. Later she draged it over into a cubby hole by her web and consumed it. Then later I found the dried up corpse on the ground away from her web. So I would find a bug every night to feed her. Cricketes, moths, flies. She was real shy when I approached her web and would run and hide in her cubby hole until I droped some prey into her web. Then she would come out and pounce. She was real careful about the grasshopper I droped into her web. The grasshopper put up a good fight but she finally got the better of it. Every time she would wrap up her quarry and haul it off into her little cubby hole. After she was done feeding, she would drag the corpse off to a "graveyard" so to speak. Finally the spider died and I'm without a pet at work. But I still hate spiders.
I really like like living in the States - I have not seen one spider that could feel you coming, and shoot out of the ground at 100mph, to bite you, when you were 30 feet away.. I had one land on me when I was a kid, that didn't bite, just scared the heck out of me.
They are kind of deadly, and live in a hole in the ground... You can see 'em if you look, but most kids don't.
Big Matt. I do not sound like that weirdo Croc hunter.. thank God. I have not got an accent - you lot have.

Yep... An Aussie.. Living in the States, retired military.. I saw the writing on the wall 10 years ago, and left. If they do the same here, I will do it again - I have carried weapons all of my adult life, I am too old to stop now.
I was reaching in a bag of dog food and a mouse ran up my arm and out of the bag. It happened so quickly I didn't have time to respond. I think my heart skipped a beat!!
