A while back I had to do a "in the field" repair of my shifter, because the thing it plugged into broke. So I welded it back up and reinstalled it. I seem to remember some kind of "lower boot" or shield that was under the main rubber boot. Does that ring a bell to anyone? Well since then I have gone through two rubber shift boots pretty quickly. They just keep coming apart. Does anyone know why this would be or are the quality of replacement rubber parts just getting that bad? Thank you for the ideas!
I'm not sure if you mean between the transmission and the The Shifter Boot that is on the interior of the cab? I just fill this space with a spare piece of cab floor insulation (the type thats made of what looks like blue jean dryer link with heavy reflective tin foil) and it has stood the test of time to keep dust and noise out.
Yes the aftermarket shifter boots are that quick to shred. I only wasted the money on 1, then went to the Pull and Pay and grabbed a couple of OEM boots from a few Fords to see which one fit best. Chose the one that worked best, problem solved.
Mark.
