my 1987 Ranger with a 2.9L engine started to idle way too high a friend told me that its the IAC, but i dont really know for sure, and would like to know what you think the problem is so i know if i should replace this part or not. any help will be appreciated thank you
if this is any help, before it started idling too high, when the engine was cold, it was hard to start, and would run rough til it warmed up, almost like the choke wasnt working, but with this being a 2.9 FI i know there isnt any choke, and the IAC takes its place, so could this further narrow it down that it is the IAC?
i need to fix this asap, i dont have the money to sent it to a mechanic, and im moving to Kentucky very soon
Having the same problem. Had the IAC cleaned a couple of times..and then lastly, when re-installing it, tightened it down real good. That helped a bit..but still idles high..and the idle screw is down as far as it goes. Looks like my plenum or upper intake manifold gasket has a small leak. So its loosing presure. Having that fixed tommor or Sat. Hope that works.
I had a 1988 Nissan 200SX V6 and the IAC went bad on it -- sounds just like your problem. Hard to start and ran rough until warmed up and then idled high just like a choke problem. I replaced the IAC and it was fine.
