Question C-6 Transmission

I have a C-6 transmission that came out of a 1978 f250. It had a 203 transfer case in it. My problem is that I am using a 205 transfer case. The tail shaft is to short. My questions are: Does anybody make an adapter that is shorter.so I can use it as is. or am I better off changing the tail shaft. or should I find a transmission that will work? I got some bad information from a friend. Thanks for your help!!!

I might be dead wrong, but I thought that the transmission was the same for the 203 and 205 t-cases, it was only the extension housing itself that was different to accommodate the 2 types of t-cases.
If that's the case, you could replace the housing.

C-6 Transmission

In the late 70's Ford made 2 C-6 to NP205 adapters. One was about 5.5" long and the other was about 8.5" long. With any luck you could switch to the short one. You will need the short output shaft as well. The C-6 output shaft is not C clipped in a 4x4 if I remember correctly, so you can just slide it out to replace it without tearing the transmission down.

I have OH many C6 trannys, I've never seen an output shaft that will come out without complete disassembly of the transmission. The snap ring that holds the output shaft is just about the last thing to come out of the housing.
