Sooooo....let's look at the situation......You had a high amperage spike, and resistors being resistors, well, resist...but the little guy couldn't handle it and popped.
Now, "putting a penny in the fuse box," it works again.
Since the resistor was the "weak link" in the circuit, it has now been replaced with a wire.
Where is the weak link now?
The plug to the resistor?
The wire leading to the plug?
The other end of the harness by the exhaust and gas line?
Something's gonna get hot and it may be on the other side of the engine compartment.
May be the dash switch now?
Who knows.

Wait, wut, a resistor? Earlier we'd discussed it being a thermal link that blew. My resistors work fine.

It has nothing to do with amperage, the wiring and the plugs. It's all about heat. The thermal fuse is monitoring the resistor area for heat. If it gets too hot in that area, it blows.
