My dad is having problems with his his escape with a miss.
He got it scanned and they said #5 is missing.
He replaced the plug and the coil and still no difference..

Must not have been #5. Have it scanned again. How many miles are on it? Usually it is always one of the coils that causes the misfire. If it has more than 100K on it you may as well do all six coils and be done with it. You can get all six for about 32 bucks on ebay with free shipping. Need to go on and get an intake gasket set so you can replace the gaskets because to get to cylinders 1,2,& 3 you have to take off the top section of the intake. Its really not a complicated task.

I would have it re-scanned and see if it still indicates cylinder 5. If it does with a new plug and COP, it is possible the injector on that cylinder has failed.

Ok.. he had it rescanned today and now it’s saying #5 and #2 vacume leak.
im guessing this could be the intake gasket or a cracked intake?

Ok this is getting confusing, I didn't think it could tie a vacuum leak to a single cylinder but I may be wrong - what are the actual codes please?

#5 is the centre front - that was changed out yes?

#2 is centre rear

No need to disturb the intake manifold (and hence gaskets), to change #5 - which makes it odd its now throwing an issue with #2 - yes the gaskets can cause an air leak.

The cylinder layout is

Rear
1. 2. 3
4. 5. 6
Front

One thing to check is the emission lines between the valve covers and intake tube. the elbows get soft and leak. But this most often makes a very poor idle and no power and multi random misfires not a given cylinder/s.
