Is there a problem with Ford ETIS VIN lookup?
I'm looking options for certain Ranger's I might be interested in buying using Ford ETIS. I originally printed out my 98 option list as well as my father's 05 F-150 awhile back. Now I'm looking for a later 4x4 Ranger and like to check to see factory options but every VIN I try for the past probably a year now hasn't brought any information up at all. It always says Outstanding Field Service Actions and then repeats it again underneath with a message saying please wait but nothing ever happens again. I remember the last time it was working correctly I could not expand the option list. I tried two different browser's too. I don't know but maybe Ford doesn't want that feature to be used by public for free. Is it now a pay service feature only? I wouldn't doubt it because every time I go to my Ford dealer they don't want to look up anything for me unless I'm planning on buying $1,000 worth of parts so I quit going.

Yeah it sucks because there is no other good VIN decoder that breaks down equipment listing. I'm constantly looking and like to know what factory options a particular truck or sometimes car came with. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a pay only feature now from Ford. I don't know about the Imports or GM but I know Chrysler has break downs of equipment listings by the VIN online free back to about 1996. Only they don't provide sales codes. They usually give them no problem at the dealer. For some reason the Ford dealers, everyone I visit around here are jerks and when you ask for a build list they think you're asking for world. I just gave up going to them.

I found one called CompNine that decodes all VINs. Some of the codes are listed as Not Defined but not many. I've tried a 2009 Chevrolet and a 1999 Ford Ranger that I was looking into getting and there was only like 1 code that said not defined. It is a pay service so I choose the 30 VINs for $10 for a month. Watch out if you don't read into it says it's a re-occuring charge so I plan on canceling at the end of a month. I hope it won't be a hassle. It's definitely helpful when looking for Chevrolet or Ford cars/trucks because it breaks it down like the printout you get from the dealer. So far I've only known of Chrysler being the only brand that will let you breakdown their VIN online without paying or going into the dealer to do it. The Ford ETIS looks like you have to buy the whole package to use it and it's like at least $1000. It beats going to the Ford dealer every time I want to check a VIN for a truck I'm considering buying. I already found one 1999 4WD XL that I was planning on buying that someone had swapped out the wheels on to XLT 16" wheels, probably after it was wrecked. It's the only VIN decoder service I could find that broke down the options.
