Hey guys, long time F150 owner but new member here. Was hoping to find some help here as I have ran into an electrical issue that I cant understand on a 92 F150 that I am working on with a 4.9l L6. I got the truck and it had sat for about 2-3 years, flushed everything out good. Replaced some bad injectors and fired it up. It was running very rough and I checked and noticed that the distributor was loose and looked like it was running it rich. I shut the truck off and went to go get some tools, when I came back, no start. I checked for spark and there was none. Long story a bit shorter I ran tests and did a ton of research and finally decided to just replace everything since it had sat so long anyhow. I replaced the distributor, distributor cap, plugs, wires, coil, and ICM. I marked the distributor and made sure it went back in in the correct place. Once complete I turned the key and still have no spark. There is power to the coil, was wondering if maybe theres a ground somewhere that could have gone bad? No idea anymore really, anyone have any thought? I appreciate it cause I am stumped now.
Try removing the spout connector(what you remove when you set the timing) and see if the spark returns when you crank the engine over. This takes the computer out of the equation.
Ok, thanks for the reply, its been crazy busy and i finally got back to working on it. I removed the spout connecter and still get no fire. Is that a computer issue then?
By removing the SPOUT you are eliminating computer control of the spark. So if you still have no spark, it's most likely not a bad computer. To be 100% certain you could completely disconnect the computer then test again.
Was the "new" distributor really new or rebuilt? If it was a rebuilt unit it most likely has a bad stator (PIP) in it. Most rebuilders never test them.
