How is the A/C in the 2017-18’s

Hello everyone, I wanted to ask how the A/C is in the newer model trucks. I have a 2013 XLT 4x4 with the 5.0 and the AC isn’t to good. It is the only thing that I can complain about. My truck has been great otherwise. It has 90k miles and I am considering getting a new truck.

If anyone has temp readings I would like to hear what they are.

Thanks.

Works fine for me in So Cal. Took several road trips, AC on all the time, no issues.

I see you are from Louisiana, a state where AC faces the acid test. I don't see any complaints on the board here, so stay tuned for more responses.

It works great. I live in Texas and have taken my 17 to Louisiana a couple of times this summer....no issues.

I've driven it when it was 115 outside, no issues.. mine's a 16 but it should be the same as the 17 and 18.

I do have the remote start so I can start it from a distance and have it nice and cool inside when I get there.

I never had a problem with my '13.
Have not had an issue with the '17.

Heads up FYI, they have changed to a new Freon in '17.

Mine is fairly good. My '08 Super Duty was horrible until I made a warranty claim on it. The service writer told me that is isn't uncommon for the factory charge to be low. After a fresh chrarge it was ice cold for years.

If any of you have problems have it vacuumed and recharged to specs.

Unless Ford has changed things since (my) ‘16, be sure to get the center console option. That adds vents in the rear of the console to cool any occupants in the back. I don’t have it and the small vents under the front seats are worthless. So it can sometimes be tricky keeping the rear occupants comfortable and not freezing those in the front.

That's PRECISELY why I made sure I had the center console in mine!

It's nice having extra USB plugs too.

I didn't really get a chance to push the AC in my 2018 since it got delivered at the end of August. The temps here in Phoenix, were only hitting the low 100's. The proof of the pudding is when it gets to 112+, that's when you find out how good your AC really works. But with the low 100's the truck cooled off quickly and had no problem holding a comfortable temp.

Note that I do not have a center console, but nobody was complaining in the back seat. We will see what this coming summer brings.

Thanks everyone for your info.

My truck doesn’t have the rear vents, and my kids do complain during the summer months. I wish I would have realized that when I bought it. When I use a thermometer in my vents the best reading I get is 50 degrees. My wife’s car gets 39 degrees

I keep a thermometer in one of my vents. The Lariat is too new and is climate controlled, not sure on that yet. My 2013 on max would have the temp at 45* coming out of the vents. My 2004 F-250 it would be 42* on max. Check your with a thermometer. Mine has about a 4" stem and a 1" round dail.

My 15 cools really well. It didn't when I first bought it used this summer, but that's because it had a clogged cabin air filter. Changed that out and it's been great. I live in Vegas where 115 isn't uncommon in the summer.

Like others have mentioned, if you don't get the center console, airflow to the backseat leaves a little to be desired. I have the jump seat so I've had complaints from passengers. It'll cool them down, but only after freezing out people in front.

My 2016 isn't very cold, either. My last truck was a 2013 Chevy. Once the cabin was cooled down, I could turn the fan on low (at highway speeds), and still keep it very cold inside, even in 110° AZ heat. With my F150, I need to keep the fan kicking, even at 80 mph, with outside temp of only 85. It's one of the most disappointing aspects of the truck.

I'd have to say you have a problem that should be looked at. My '15 gets very cold and I'm in 105* Texas.

This is what I experience also. Every other vehicle that I’ve owned never had to be on full blast.
