rebuilt 460 problems
hi guys. I just got my rebuilt 460 & E4od in and running. And I’m having some hiccups. First of all at startup there is a god aweful squeal that only lasts for a moment. I’ve had a pulley bearing go out before and I know that sound. It doesn’t last nearly as long as that does. It’s really only for a second. Sometimes it hits again but for only for a second. My neighbor thinks it the belt but I’m not sure. I just don’t want to blow my new engine. It’s a gut punching squeal. Real sharp. Then goes away and doesn’t come back.
Second. The power steering pump that I rebuilt won’t take any fluid. I put new seals and cleaned the whole thing up real nice. It didn’t seam to have any abnormal wear when I tore it down but it was from a donor engine that wasn’t mine. Not sure if it ran. I pour it in, run the engine, lift the front end and turn the wheels stop to stop. The fluid goes nowhere. Took it around the block and it definitely didn’t take the fluid. Had to skip doing curls later that day. Any thoughts?...
thanks for the input. I’ve gotten through some learning moments a lot easier because of you guys.
For the power steering pump I would remove the return line at the pump, and stick it in a bucket. Crank over the motor for a couple seconds, then see if any fluid is in the bucket. Keep moving up river until you get fluid in the bucket. The component between squirts and no squirts is likely your problem.
