Accelerator question

trying to get this truck running, I fix one problem and find another. Pedal occasionally sticks to the floor. This linkage doesn’t look right, can anyone point me in the right direction? Carb rebuild kit is on the way as well.

It's broken right there at the bracket. And it doesn't line up right. But right now I am not sure what piece is wrong.

What year truck do you have? Obviously it's not all original. Is the engine a different year?

Will it somehow fit in the u-shape hole to the right in the picture? Or does it require a square hole?

My 81 the throttle cable fits into that bracket, lower picture into the "U" to the right, and the cable has a tab that a screw goes thru to hold the cable to the bracket.

You are going to take the high road and keep the TFI/electronic carb system? I applaud you for that. Don't be disappointed if it doesn't work out. If you find you need some of the sensors or other components, they can be hard to find.

Maybe you can become our 300 six electronic controls system expert. We need one.

Please, when asking questions, list ALL the important details, we are not mind readers.

It's a 1984 300 I-6, but is it an F150, F250 or F350? What trans does it have?

The 300 I-6 accelerator cable used on 1983/86's is different than 1980 and 1981/82.

So I need to know what trans your truck has, to post the correct pic of the linkage.

1984 F150, 4.9l 300 in-line 6, c6 transmission. I didn’t know that would make a difference apologies.

When I was in the car/truck repair field I would give all the info and if 2 or 4 door (if not needed) and the color as a joke.
Some times they needed the VIN to order parts so I would have to go back and get it.

Always give more than what is needed to be safe.

In post #1, you failed to list a single shred of evidence on what you are working on, which isn't unusual, because I see examples of this every day here on FTE

Post #4: Then after you were asked, you listed the year and engine size, but omitted the series and the trans type.

So, now that we know the pertinent info, here's the pic of the linkage. The pic doesn't say so, but this is not for the AOD that was introduced in 1981.

However, the accelerator cable is the same for all 1983/86 F100/350's & Bronco's with any trans and the 300 I-6: E3TZ-9A758-B .. 31" long / Obsolete

NOS PARTS SOURCE in Olathe KS has 1 = 913-220-5746.

MCDONALD OBSOLETE PARTS in Rockport IN has 1 = 812-359-4965.

Does your truck have cruise or had cruise? I am wondering what that extra part of the bracket is for. I see now the mechanical linkage down low on the manifold for the kickdown for the c6.

Factory installed Speed Control. The switch is located in the horn pad.

Dealer installed Speed Control: The switch clips onto the T/S handle.

Pic = 1984/86 300 I-6 w/Speed Control:

So I put the cable into the little U shaped clip where it is suppose to be but it doesn't seem to accelerate correctly due to the broken end you can see in my first picture. outside of that U clip the throttle opens up all the way with no issues. (Truck no longer cranks due to bad gas over 1 year old gas, I bought an octane booster and two 5 gallon cans of gas for it)
Also thank you for the diagrams extremely helpful, where did you get them if you dont mind me asking?
