I believe some have said there may be a need for slight modifications to the bucket but nothing serious . I had a little of the same on my 2000 super duty which came with square halogens , but the light is incredible .
I'd like to avoid any modifications if possible. That said, that site seems to have a really good/easy return policy so I think I'll take the risk that they will fit and just pay return shipping if they don't
Jerry, these are the LED headlamps that I recently bought for the 40 Ford. They are a standard 7 inch lamp that will fit the trucks as well. Truck-Lite 27270C 7" LED Headlamp (High - Low beam). They sell for about $165 each. They were originally developed for trucks and then the military started buying them which added a MIL-SPEC certification...Jeep guys love then because they are so durable. I saw a few cars at Big Bear this year that had them, looked good on a hot rod/custom.
Chuck - where did you buy those? I started to look around and it looks like most places have them on back order. It looks like the backs for those are a bit shallower and more likely to fit my truck without any modifications required.
I think that I bought mine off Amazon but I'm not sure...I think that they were in the neighborhood of $320 for the pair. The back of the housing is cast aluminum and is fairly stout. The lens is polycarbonate. The lamp is a bit more shallow than a sealed beam...since there is no plug on the rear of the lamp then there is a bit more space there as well. I did a lot of research on what was available on the market today, these were the best performance for the money that I could find. There are some Chinese knock-offs out there but the quality is just not the same as a made in the US unit.
I bought the headlamp housings only w/halo. ($26/Ebay) The headlamps are 7” and have the ridges that fit the headlamp bucket. You can mount the HID lamp into the headlamp with minor drilling of the seat. You also need to enlarge the grommet hole to fish the wiring into the bucket. The HID kit cost about $35 for both headlamps.
I do not know how Charlie’s unit mounts but you need some way to adjust the lamps. With mine, you use the original bucket adjustment screws. I got the diamond cut glass that diffuses the light and makes it difficult to adjust. I am looking at projector lens that have a white halo and costs$30/pair. Since I rarely use the truck at night, it is not a high priority.
I'm feeling much more confident about this whole thing then. I'm looking at the lights Chuck bought - doing some research on carid.com has almost all bad reviews on yelp and the other sites that have good reviews are almost all universally too good, so I'm not feeling confident with that site
If not, what size and dimensions should I look for?
They should fit as these 7" fit my '50 just fine. $41 on eBay. The only issue is that you must run the white as DRL as the white halo provides power to the amber halo.
