replacement seats
So has anyone put in captain' chairs with adjustable headrests, either aftermarket or from another vehicle? I do not care about matching the other seats because we have removed them all. We have only the two front seats. I'd even be okay with changing out only the driver's seat. I am a big guy and would like to find as large and comfortable a seat as possible. I tend to do long distance drives (just got back from a 6500 mile 7 day round trip last month in my E150 conversion) and a seat that fits too snug, makes for an uncomfortable trip after the first couple days.
I have the exact same van as you. One of the welds on the seat back was broken when I got the van,so I took a trip to the local u-pull-it to look for another seat. I could not find one with the same color interior,so I just grabbed the nicest one there. Actually,I only took the seat back section. They still charged me the full price for the seat ($12, can't beat that!). Anyway, when I got home I unzipped the skin off of the original seat and swapped it over to the new one,a slightly difficult task but it can be done. Turns out the new seat back is about 4 inches taller so the cover dosen't go all the way to the bottom. Fortuantely it isn't noticable unless you are in the back seat,so I will keep it until I find another. Now,I am 6'3" and I think it is much more comfortable than the original seat, and I might look for the same setup for the passenger side. The bad thing is I didn't take notice as to what year I got the new one from. I figured an Aerostar is an Aerostar, right? Maybe someone out there knows what year the change was made? It would be hard to tell just looking at them, but I guess you could bring a tape measure and compare them to waht you have. Hope this helps!
