Confused about payload amount.

These days with payload and tow ratings there's so much customer confusion along with tongue-in-cheek advertising from the manufacturers that if I were to buy a new truck today I'd include a trip to a certified scale as part of the test drive. I'd weigh front and rear axles separately.
