The odometer reading on the dash will go out. Unplugging the connector to the IP and plugging it back in (or remover the full time power fuse) will make it come back on for a short while then it goes out again (it may last hours or a couple days, goes out after vehicle has been shut off then restarted, stays out until power is interrupted to the IP). I've re done the solder connection on the panel and wiggling the IP panel, plug and wiring do not cause it to go back out again. I leaning towards a problem with the chip in the IP, but would like some advise on this before replacing the IP. I also have the problem where the gauges take a dump, all the lights on the IP come on, I get the buzzer sound, but it only lasts for about a second, then comes back on. Others have had these stay failed, not intermittent. All brake lights are working. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
It does sound like a faulty instrument panel. You can go to the junkyard and get another, but you will probably have to go to the dealer and get it programmed for your truck.
Thank You, there is a place www.circuitboardmedics.com that has repaired exchange boards for $150.00. They say they are pre programed (most likely from vin #). Do you know anything about them ?
I don't know anything about them. You could check with the local dealer and see how much they charge to program one of them. That plus the cost of a used unit versus the repair service.
I did a nationwide search using 2004 f150 only, and these came up. If you know if any more years would work, you could plug that in here Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and see if any more hits come up.
