1992 E40D Problem
1. Can the problem be more in the computer than in the tranny, because the tranny seems to be fine in all other areas. BTW the tranny really needed to be rebuilt 175000 miles and slipping.
2. When I originally replaced the TPS I threw the original away and there are 5 different ones available, how can I find out which one I had on there. NAPA says I need the original numbers from it.
Thanks
Ray
i have the same year bronco w/e4od....
hmm does that rumble/chatter seem like it is the engine trying to get more power when it is in od, then finally shifting into od?
my experience is that is normal in driving on hills and such when in od.
but your description seemed more harsh (chattering)
have you checked to see if all your cylinders are firing? maybe a bad plug wire??
I don't know why NAPA says there are five part #'s for the TPS. Perhaps their looking at the ECM (electronic control module), of which there are actually six different ECM's and part #'s. There is only one part# for the TPS in my docs, and it is:
F6TZ-9B989-AA
Regarding the TPS, when you installed the new one, did you adjust it to make sure it was sending out the proper voltages to the ECM? Are you sure the techs who rebuilt the trans. made sure the TPS, and all the other sensors, were sending the proper voltages? Before replacing the current TPS, I'd have your techs make sure the voltage signals being sent are right. If you are going to do it yourself, send me an email at:
thecabin@datasync.com
and I will send you a zip file which will include test procedures for all of the sensors along with other E4OD stuff. R.A.
As for the engine, it is running fine. The top side was just overhauled and tuned and working great. That 4.9 straight six is a tough @#$@#$.
Thanks for the responses.
BTW today the problem is now being felt in 3rd shifting back to second just like the OD to 3rd.
