Hauling to Montana
#16
It's called Missoula and that place is a breeding ground for dope-smoking Bernie supporters. It's similar to how a lot of north California people don't appreciate having the southern part dictate their politics. Montana really needs a lot of things: Border walls, sales tax (in lieu of our ridiculous property taxes that support bottom-feeders and their brood), and a dividing line separating western from eastern.
Great line about Missoula.

Unfortunately, the great state of Texas has taken in so many of the liberal rejects from a lot of those places.
Had one confront me the other day asking me why I drove this "truck that was killing the earth if I didn't really need to"..........

Seems this thread has gone way off topic.
While I agree that the western states as a whole have tended to attract people seeking to escape the over regulation typical of the west and east coasts, and that they tend to import the same stupid policies they seem to flee, that to generalize ALL who move to more conservative and historically more freedom loving and self sufficient states as "bottom feeders" is an oversimplification.
I was born and raised in Ohio, once considered the "frontier". My ancestors were German/Scotch and came to America before the Louisiana Purchase. They came seeking the promise that all men were equal before God, Man, and the Law and that with hard work and ingenuity they might accumulate land and wealth to pass on to their posterity. Nothing was a free ride, but all was possible to those who applied their talents and energy. Unlike the society they fled.
To our shame, that promise has nearly faded into obscurity with the increase in power of not only the Federal but also the many State governments who consider not the unalienable rights of the individual GRANTED BY GOD, and supposedly guarded by the limitations on government imposed by the Declaration and the Constitution. The promise of America is nearly dead, and it is our own fault!
Montana is not exempt from this curse, though perhaps not quite as far fallen as some of her neighbors. The blame falls not only on the "Californicators", but also the native Montanans who vote socialist/communist/progressive in order to plunder the so called "rich" who have for generations worked the land to provide for themselves and their progeny.
When I moved to Colorado she was a free state for the most part. The economy was based on agriculture, mining, and oil. She, and we are failing because we lost our hope in God and the gifts he has given - and fell into the lie of Government promises that do nothing but rob Peter to pay Paul.
Not the fault of those who came to seek Liberty, but our own for not having the backbone to stand and fight for our God given rights against political correctness and downright covetousness.
Enough of my off topic rant.

How do you explain Scandinavian countries that are largely atheist, have democratic socialist forms of governments including health care for life and free college education, and consistently rank as the happiest places to live in the world?

It begs the question. Their tax rates are confiscatory. Ain't nothin' "free", the only question is who pays for it.
And the US ain't Sweden, if you hadn't noticed. In recent years they've been importing jihadists and it's (surprise!) turned into a real disaster. 20 or 30 years ago it was a standard boilerplate argument, but none of the lefty loosies say we need to be more like Sweden anymore. They used to say we needed to be more like Venezuela too. That dropped off the radar now that their currency is approaching toilet paper status and they can't get toilet paper.

Update on the ranch...
Coming down from summer range...
Moving cows home from summer pasture with the help of a couple of real cowboys
A few pictures from the Ranch, the Calfs are twins from a 15 cow who lost her calf last year, I guess she is making up for it this year...
Penny (not a real cow dog, but sweet) and her friend Stuart the three legged cat warming at the home place.
God bless America - the land, the critters, and those who care for them.
And bless God who gives all this by His grace!

BTW...
That cow came in to the main ranch with her twins in tow, till my son gathered them. 'Course I suspect he did so on an ATV rather than as I might by slinging the pair up front on the A fork atop my Appy (sadly gone to horse heaven a few years back).
Times change. I guess we must too!
