Windshield light bar mounting (help with position)
I plan on installing between a 50-54" light bar above my excursion windshield.
I am looking for what mounting brackets to use to et a good setback to prevent glare.
Well, I keep in mind that once you have it mounted and figure out the wiring then you'll have to deal with extremely annoying whistling of the light bar. Personally, I would go with a 20" on the bumper. Easier mounting, wiring and no whistling that you will have to deal with! If you're set on a LB and mounting it above the windshield, I would look at a Yakima roof mounted bar.
32” curved bar on the bumper fits perfectly. I figured drilling the bumper was a much better than drilling into the cab. Bumpers are easily replaced, cabs not so easy.
The problem we hear the most is the incidental illumination of hood while the light bar is on. It becomes extremely annoying after the newness wears off, we are told.
Thanks for the input and its take into consideration.
I am not worried about some wind noise with a 2003 7.3 ..
Used to all kinds of noise in this thing by now..
Also I realize the glare can get bad , my dads truck needs a really clean windshield or its annoying..
If ya get a chance go on instagram and find a guy called pete-in-socal. Hes a good friend and just happens to be a designer at Ridgid lights. Great guy and im sure he would give you the low down on mounting it. Lots of pics of his inside the cab light bar mounting. No bug cleaning, not a theft problem, no hood glair... Oh and hes not a brand snob so check him out! Lots of pics of his lights.
