So the steering wheel and horn pad in my '76 are a little the worse for wear..
What are the options for that year? I think I read somewhere that 71-77 wheels from F-series fit, presumably Econoline from similar years - anything else?
Good used would be preferable - $250 for the wheel plus the horn pad would be a little out of my budget at the moment...

At one time, Carpenter repro'd the 1971/77 steering wheel, but is now out of stock.
Both 1971/77 horn pads are reproduced: Walnut wood grained finish (Ranger XLT/Bronco Sport/Econoline Chateau) & black camera case finish (except as noted in paranthesis).
1978/79's use different steering wheels and horn pads.
Bill,
So what about a steering wheel from a Ford car? are there any matches that would work on a truck, as far as a fit, not so much as an exact match to the F series wheel.
I was once looking at a Ranchero, and it seemed like the steering wheel in that car was a match to my '79 F150

The only car/Ranchero steering wheel that is the same as 1978/79 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline is the 3 spoke "Sport" steering wheel.
D7OZ-3600-A or B .. 3 Spoke Sport Steering Wheel = 1977/79: Passenger Cars (except 1977/79 LTD/Grand Marquis/Town Car & 1978/79 Fairmont/Zephyr); 1978/79 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline.
This steering wheel uses a round horn button, not a horn pad. Only dealer installed Speed Control was available, as its switch clips to the T/S handle.
here's a pic of the steering wheel from a 79 Ranchero, with the LTD front end, it looks almost the same as the one on my truck, and looks like it would fit too, maybe this is an LTD steering
wheel?
here's a pic (I deleted it) of the steering wheel from a 79 Ranchero, with the LTD II front end, it looks almost the same as the one on my truck, and looks like it would fit too.
1957/59 Rancheros were full sized Fords, 1960/66 Rancheros were Falcons, 1967 Rancheros were Fairlanes, 1968/71 Rancheros were either Fairlanes or Torinos.
1972/76 Rancheros were Torinos, 1977/79 Rancheros were LTD II's.
1977: Ford renamed the Torino with the ridiculous name LTD II. This is not an LTD!
This was one of the dumbest things that FoMoCo ever did, because it caused all sorts of confusion.
The only LTD II nameplate was located on the deck lid of sedans, tailgates of wagons, Ranchero didn't have one. Emblem (see pic below) had a large LTD with a smaller II behind it.
Most customers including garages and body shops missed the II, ordered parts for an LTD.
I recall that a body shop ordered a complete front clip for a 1977 LTD, then when they discovered ALL the parts were wrong, called up and said what gives?
Asking people for the VIN to determine which it was could be troublesome, so parts guys asked customers:
Does it have stacked (vertical) headlamps (LTD II) or horizontal headlamps (LTD)? This method usually solved the problem.
I have quite a few original steering wheels in nice shape in storage. I don't think I saved any that had cracks. Had no idea there was any demand for them, or that re pops costed so much. If you end up needing one send a PM.

I never thought of the Fox bodied LTDs ('84-'85?) as a true LTD either.
LTDs started out in '65 as the top-of-the-line luxury Galaxie 500, causing Chevy to come up with the Caprice in '66.
I never thought of the Fox bodied LTD's ('83-'86) as a true LTD either.

1983: FoMoCo renamed LTD as the Crown Victoria, because they introduced a new LTD that was a Fox bodied midsize along with the Mercury Marquis.
These two cars didn't cause anywhere near the confusion that the LTD II did. They were smaller and basically a restyled Fairmont/Zephyr, as was the 1981/82 Granada (another Fox body).
Meanwhile the LTD II was HUGE, about the same size as an LTD and it was actually larger than the 1979 LTD (and Grand Marquis) that were "downsized." The immense Town Car was downsized in 1980.
Parts guys wished they could grab the IDIOTS at FoMoCo that came up with this ridiculous LTD II name, keel haul them and then if still alive, hang them from the highest yardarm!

Do you have a steering wheel in good shape that fits a 73 F 250?
Up here where we have winter, those steering wheels didn't make it through their first winter setting outside. Crappy 70s plastic. They were real proud of the stuff but didn't know how to make it well. Just get a nice aftermarket wheel. Superior has some decent looking wood 3 spoke.
