Explorer Brakes.....

First off, I'm going to say I dont know much about about cars. Second, I drive a 93 Explorer Sport with 95,000 mi. Lately I've been hearing a metal on metal grinding noise when I apply the brakes coming from the drivers side and passenger side. I took one wheel off and the pad looked a little worn, so I figured it was probably in need of new brake pads. I'm just trying to get some second opinions as to what it might be. I dont have much money so I cant afford to take it to a garage. I'm going to try and fix this problem myself. Any suggestions as to what I can do? Thanks for your time.

Explorer Brakes.....

Yeah that happend to me. Had a grinding sound?; 3 days after i noticed it my brakes went out. The right caliper seal had been worn through by the rotor somehow and all the fluid started to leak out. Id check all parts and see what it is, cuz it might not just be the pads.

I'm assuming you are referring to the front brakes. Make sure you check the inner pads as well and the rotors for any scoring. If the pads are worn, you should replace them asap. It's an easy job and pads are fairly cheap ($20-30).
