I was just perusing the factory parts manuals and discovered something I never noticed before. Up until the end of the 1952 model run the stubby nosed trucks were called Cab-Over-Engine (COE's). Beginning with 1953 and onward, they were called Cab Forward (CF's). Any speculation on why the word "engine" was dropped?

I think the cabs were basically the same until the introduction of the C and H series tilt cabs. The timing was just before GM introduced their Low Cab Forward (LCF) models. Just wondering if it was just a marketing gambit.

This is my guess.. I believe they are 2 in the same. Coe = cab over engine and cab forward was considered over the front axle. But, you bring them side by side..... they both are over the motor and front axle. To some degree. So my guess really doesn't answer the question. I don't know... maybe they wanted to be different. Kind of like when they got rid of the Taurus and made it the 500. Sales dropped and went back to Taurus.

Thanks for the inspiration. I really need to do that too. It's been languishing for weeks and getting cobwebs. That's not a good sign.
