Glass Finish

Hey everybody!
I'm **** about keeping the boss's (wife) 08 Escape, and my 2013 F150 Super Crew looking as nice as I possibly can. I'm about a foot passed being **** on how they are maintained, but I also get over 200K on them when I'm finished with them. Well, unless we're on vacation, in Tennessee, and in a really sweet thunderstorm, 5 tree's break and they all land on my truck. Yes it really happened...
On with the post!
Both are always clean, inside and out, but I want the paint to look as if it were wet, and the paint protected from the winters that we can get, and the salt and crap that is put down on the roads.
Currently, I have a good coat of wax (by hand) on each. I'm using Meguiars Tech2000 wax. Each have been clay barred, then the wax applied. And I'm wanting to get another coat of wax on each vary soon.

So, what are y'all using to protect your paint, and get that wet look.

Unk Bob

Check the inner rockers on both vehicles. Crawl under them and look.

I have two trucks: A 1988 F150 and a 2017 F150.

I'm currently using Collinite 845 Insulator Wax, topped with Pinnacle Söveran Spray Wax. The Insulator Wax is mostly for protection, while I use the spray wax more for shine after washing. Neither truck looks wet, but neither one is a 10-point show truck. Besides, the combined protection sure lasts a long time as far as waxes go, supposedly around 6 months!

The body shop that repainted my '88 has had nightmares with vehicles that use synthetic (sealant) waxes, so I'm going the all-natural, Carnuaba route!

I haven't had the chance to use the Insulator Wax on my '88 yet, but it won't be exposed to the salt and slush that my '17 will be this winter.

Have you checked Autogeek.net for a glossier wax? There are many, many waxes there for you to choose from!

I spend way too much time cleaning my truck, the wife's suv, the motorcycle, the rzr, the everything with a motor in it.....

I always do a multi system approach. I find it doesn't matter as much what you use but if you do a good job. I will say what I use but I don't consider it necessarily the best.

First a good old fashion hand wash with the turtle wax wash and wax. Just what I got a good deal on.

Then a clay bar round - Meguiar's clay bar this time around but any clay bar works about the same.

Follow that up by a good polish - Meguiars Ultimate Polish is the one I found best or their mirror glaze swirl remover if I see a lot of swirl marks.

Then a round of wax. I used the Meguiars nxt tech 2.0 this go around and it was easy to use but I don't think it gets a "deep" shine but it has been the smoothest feeling the longest so far. I like the look of liquid glass but didn't find it lasted that well.

Finally a sealant over that. This last time I used the meguiars mirror glaze sealant 2.0

I know a lot of meguiars. I have found that their stuff works well enough for me without getting into crazy price ranges, and you can get it at any auto parts store.

I need to use some collinite but never think about it until I am waxing and don't have time to get it. The stores near me don't sell it.

I couldn't resist this picture...yes it has some editing done to it.

Bob or Jacob,
Would either of you like to clay-bar & wax my truck

I feel as if I've been neglecting her badly, we don't have time for anything anymore with the wife working now too & all the crap those damn kids do (lol) I have used that Turtle Wax ICE on ours at least twice this year & it leaves a "wet look" plus its super easy to apply, even makes plastics shine! Only downside is it doesn't last very long, but considering it goes on in a fraction of the time, we don't mind applying more often.

P.S... Jacob, black is hard to maintain & yours looks fantastic

Another vote for Meguiar's products. That's all I use.

I typically never have time for the multi-step protection. Had time last weekend for a wash and Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax. Applied with a cheap, $25 random orbital polisher then hand buffed.

Need to find some time to clay bar.

I think it came out alright:

Another Meguiar's fan here. When I detailed mine a few months ago, I washed and then clayed using their products. That was followed with a round with the Ultimate Compound 2.0, topped with a round of Ultimate liquid wax. All of the plastic was dressed with Ultimate plastic restorer and tires with Endurance Tire Gel.

I have a buddy that tops his vehicles with the Collinite 845 and he has had good luck with it.

I always liked the look of a fresh coat of liquid glass, I just found that look was gone quickly compared to others. For the price I expected it to last longer. But you can't beat the look.

Here's my '17 last weekend after washing and using my spray wax. The Collinite is about 2 months old at this point, and still going strong!

I also use Endurace Gel for my tires, but it's only to keep them looking new and black. I just wipe on and wipe off.

Not to hi jack but the question is what is the clay for? Have only started hearing about for a couple years now.

It's used to remove embedded contaminants in the paint that washing alone can't remove. The clay picks up the contaminants as you press and move it along the surface. I personally haven't used it yet, but have heard that it works incredibly well.
